Tim Thomas Skips White House Trip, Tweets The Fed Should Go Fly A Kite

The defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins made the great American trek to the White House today, but goalie Tim Thomas skipped the trip.

Thomas made a statement both by avoiding the invite and literally by posting this message on his Twitter account:

"I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.

This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.

Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.

This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT"

Take action today on 2 big issues...

The first petition is to force President Obama not to sign this "sweetheart" deal to allow Wall St to get away scott-free with what they did. Force a full-scale investigation to hold those who brought our country to its knees accountable!!

Hold Wall St Accountable!!

The other petition is to give President Obama and eventually congress the backing support needed to add a constitutional amendment to ban corporate money donations in elections. In essence it would reverse the supreme court decision known as "Citizens United" which allows big corporations like Exxon to spend millions of dollars on elections for certain candidates. President Obama has already condemned the Supreme Court decision so instead of going through endless process to reverse it, a constitutional amendment is the way to go.

Corporations are not people, don't let them buy elections!!

LtD sports wrap: NFL Divisional Round weekend

Wow... What a stunning weekend in the NFL. I had a feeling that one of the Packers or Saints would lose this weekend, but not both... Bottom line - when you are a team that's supposed to win, it's just a whole different beast. Add in a bye week to sit around and think; it can prove to be a recipe for disaster ...

Let's take a quick glance at what happen.

Saturday:

The 49ers stunned the Saints 36-32 in San Francisco proving the theory that a dome team struggles mightily outdoors especially in the playoffs. This game was the best of the weekend. It was insane and unexpected to watch the 49ers match scoring drive after scoring drive late in the 4th quarter with the Saints. Side bar - holy Vernon Davis...

Speaking of holy; not even god, jesus christ or the entire holy trinity for that matter could help the Denver Tebow's stop Tom Brady and the Pats on Saturday night. The Pats completely demolished (old testament style...) the Broncos 45-10 and only needed 2.5 quarters to do so... Brady had 6 TD passes in 3 quarters I believe; the game was over before halftime...

Sunday:

The Ravens took out the playoff-virgin Texans 20-13 in Baltimore. The Ravens spent roughly 5 minutes (if that) on the wrong side of the score; they led the rest of the way. The Texans definitely gave the Ravens a good go but in the end the crafty veterans of the Ravens defense forced Texans rookie QB CJ Yates to make critical, drive killing mistakes that did in the Texans season.

In the final game of the weekend, the heavily favored #1 seeded Packers suffered a stunning defeat on their home field at the hands of the surging NY Giants 37-20. The Packers found out what it's like to defend a title, have a bulls-eye on your back (straight from a Dr Carr text of wisdom) in the post-season, etc. Not sure what I'm getting at; go back and read the first paragraph of this post, can't say it any clearer...

I'm just a little bitter because myself and Dr Carr while enjoying some delicious Pei-wei more-or-less called the Giants victory over the Packers. I should have put my money where my mouth is... As Drewman - the other third of LtD mentioned to me tonight; the Packers had everything to lose (they did), the Giants had nothing to lose. All to often that fact determines big games...

So next week, the NFL's final four will play Sunday to determine who moves on to Super Bowl XLVI.

LtD on politics: Huntsman reportedly out of the GOP race

Another GOP candidate has bit the dust... It's not a surprise but Jon Huntsman has reportedly dropped out of the GOP race with expected miserable support in the upcoming South Carolina primary. Miserable like 1%...

Huntsman is expected to support Mitt Romney for the GOP presidential nod. That is also no surprise... I have long thought that Mitt Romney is the GOP's best shot at giving President Obama a run for his money in the 2012 election. The others are way to far to the right to get enough support to win a general election (thankfully).

The fact that the GOP has tried to find somebody - anybody that would be better than Mitt Romney shows what they really think of him. There is a real internal struggle (or as Bill Maher said, a civil war) within the GOP right now; definitely something to watch. It will be very interesting to see if Romney, who I saw several GOP supporters call an empty suit or just "the mormon" can actually get the people out to support him. I'm not talking about him winning the primary, I'm talking about the actual GOP voter count. They really don't like him...

The LtD radio show on BlogTalkRadio has been put on hiatus indefinitely. Unfortunately there are several challenges that make it next to impossible to pull off a weekly radio show the way we want to do it.

The good news...

Myself, Dr Carr and Drewman will have more time to focus on posting to the LtD website!! LtD brain food will be aplenty...

The second part of the good news is we are currently having discussions to do a summer-time radio show when all of us are on east coast soil! We are also hoping to do the show somewhere with the ability to play some awesome tunes like we did before on Volta Radio!! Stay tuned for details on this some time in the spring...

Rick Santorum is a hypocritical douche bag. And enormous one at that... So now you know where I stand on this ass-clown.

Here are some interesting things you should consider if you are thinking about voting for Santorum. Mr ethics/regular charlie church himself is not so much... I find it amazing that this guy who has a hardcore anti-abortion stance was more than ok with an abortion in his own family to save his wife's life. I don't care about the debate on whether it was technically an abortion; bottom line is they knew the pregnancy would have to be terminated some way or his wife would die. It's ok for Santorum to have the choice to save his wife's life but not for you...

And then there is the other right wing obsession Santorum stomps for; doing whatever possible to ban/not allow gay marriage. That will be a whole other post...

But the two things mentioned above just scratch the surface...

LtD Final Weather Update: Hurricane Earl Weakens And Stays Off The Coast

The East Coast has dodged a huge bullet with this one. Hurricane Earl lost to a strong cold front moving through the eastern US, thus keeping Earl further off the coast.

This is one where the weather models and forecasting was pretty spot on. The storm turned as expected.

Hurricane Earl weakened to a Category 2 storm with sustained winds of 110mph right before its rain bands came on shore in North Carolina and southeastern Virginia. The eye of the storm passed 85 miles off Cape Hatteras NC through the early morning hours today and is moving North/Northeast at 21mph.

Though North Carolina and southeastern Virginia didn't take a direct hit they were still hammered with hurricane force winds and driving, horizontal rain fall. Monster surf eroded away beaches and storm surge along with blanketing rain flooded numerous areas.
The storm will pass Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey coastlines throughout today with the eye of the storm staying about 200 miles out to sea. These spots will see tropical storm force winds and heavy rain bands through Friday.

Tonight and early tomorrow morning Long Island, Cape Cod and other surrounding islands will be closely grazed by the teeth of this storm. It may even come closer than it did to North Carolina. The positive is Earl should only be a Category 1 by that point; the negative is these places will still see hurricane force winds, brutal surf and heavy, driving rain.

On the bright side for everyone it looks like a beautiful holiday weekend after this storm moves out today and early tomorrow!

LtD Weather Report: Hurricane Earl Moves Closer

Alright folks, here is the latest on this major hurricane that people seem to be snoozing on... If this storm does not turn as much as anticipated, people will be in serious trouble.

Hurricane Earl is still a strong Category 4 hurricane (135mph) that is now expected to remain at least a Category 3 when it impacts the coast. I said last night and I will say it again, this storm keeps being projected closer and closer to land. Yesterday morning the eye was expected to pass 200 miles off the coast, last night it was 150, this morning it was 100, now it could be as little as 50 miles off the coast or even landfall. This storm is so big it's recording hurricane force winds (74mph) as far as 150 miles away from the eye. Tropical storm force winds (35mph) have been recorded as far as 200 miles from the eye.

Who will it affect??

Hurricane Warnings have been issued from most of the North Carolina coast, hurricane watches have been issued from Virginia to Delaware plus parts of New York and Connecticut. New Jersey currently is only under a Tropical Storm warning. Look for that to change by tomorrow...

It appears South Carolina is in the clear as Earl has begun turning northward. North Carolina however may be the unlucky state... They look to be most affected by this monster-sized storm. Evacuations orders have already been ordered for Cape Hatteras and other spots in the Outer Banks. North Carolina will seeing Earl's affect starting tomorrow with a potential graze or landfall by Thursday night.

The track after that is tough to call. It all depends on a powerful cold front expected to come through the far east by Friday. The interaction between Earl and this cold front WILL determine the track. If the eye ends up riding the coast or remains only slightly out to sea, do the math on how far the strong winds and rain will be felt.

Tomorrow morning/afternoon will be a key moment for this storm. The storm should have started its turn northward and we'll have a better idea of how close it will come to land.

LtD Weather Report: Hurricane Earl Is A Monster

Before you read this, remember I'm a big time weather nerd!

The unofficial last weekend of summer just got very interesting...

If anyone is planning on going away or doing anything outside along the east coast, make sure you keep an eye on this massive storm. Hurricane Earl is a strong Category 4 storm about 800 miles off the eastern US Coast that has plenty of warm water ahead of it to keep its strength. Earl could impact the east coast from Thursday through Sunday.

The National Weather Service has already issued a hurricane watch for most of the Carolina's and a word of caution for the east coast all the way to Maine. Earl is projected to take a similar path as some other signifcant storms like Floyd, Bob and Gloria. The question is how far out to sea will the storm remain.

The key to the weather equation is simple... It's a strong, sweeping cold front that should make its way through the far east by early Friday.

If this cold front slows up or loses strength, this hurricane could make landfall somewhere along the coast. If the cold front moves through on time and swiftly, it will keep Earl off the coast. There is a significant chance this storm could ride up the east coast bringing strong winds and soaking rain.

By late tomorrow, the weather service will have a better idea of what track the storm will take and evacuations could begin. If this strong and large of a storm gets close to the coast, it will have a significant impact on Labor Day Weekend.

Like I said earlier, pay attention to this storm. It's very strong and a serious threat to the east coast. It will come way to close to land to ignore.

Mobile Phone News: Samsung Set To Battle Blackberry?

The rad dudes over at BoyGeniusReport.com have posted news of a Samsung smartphone device, tentatively called the Galaxy Q, set to rival the Blackberry.

BGR is regurgitating a Korean Times source that has opined that team Sammy wants to compete in the Divided States of America against the Blackberry smartphone, and will do so by giving Blackberry users like myself what many of us want: a similar form factor with a physical keypad AND a touch screen.

According to the report, Samsung is negotiating with both AT&T and Verizon for who will launch the phone first, potentially by the end of this year.

So that means both a CDMA and GSM version of the phone are in the works, which will make it easy for Sprint (CDMA) and T-Mobile (GSM) to hop on the bandwagon.

The logistics of how Sammy may construct such a device (a touchscreen on something like a Blackberry Bold will not be an easy task considering the limited amount of real estate), and what it would look are unknown, but for now a guy can Dream, can't he?

Bryce Harper Is Living The Dream...

So says Bryce Harper, who is the hottest baseball prospect to come along in many years and who is expected to be drafted first overall by the Washington Nationals this coming Monday night.

As for the Nationals, on Tuesday they will start Stephen Strasburg, the 100mph fireballer who they selected first overall in last year's draft. But the night before they will undoubtedly add Harper to their team and Harper's yin to Strasburg's yang.

In a cruel twist, Delaware County (Delco) staple Jimmy John's burned on the day of it's 70th anniversary. Jimmy John's was known for yummy hot dogs, tasty milkshakes and other greasy goodness! Above all it was mostly known for their amazing train sets that ran around the building as you dined.

A true shame that this establishment will be no more... A sad day for Delco.

LtD Health Care Report: Young Adults, Mainly Males, Will See Health Care Costs Rise

I just finished reading this article on the cover of Yahoo.com about how young-adults (ages 20-35) in America will have to burden some of the rising healh care costs in the new Obama health care plan.

This report, though seemingly a bit critical towards the new health care overhaul, is a good read and does a fair enough job to speak for both sides of the argument.

Age-weighting is what it is, peeps. It's hard to ignore statistics. Young people die less often than old people. And that is all the actuarial, bean-counting insurance companies care about. Rock solid statistics.

Well, rock solid statistics and money. They care an awful lot about money too.

Now, due to the 3-1 rule, where a 50-year old can only be charged three times what a 20-year old can be charged, insurance companies decide the premiums they want to charge a 50-year old, and apply the 3-1 rule to determine what the premium cost will be for a young adult. This in turn has jacked the premiums up for young people.

There will, however, be tax credits (better than a deduction) to offset the rising costs.. Plus, in a few months Americans up to age 26 can remain on a parent's insurance plan. These are only a few of the ways the new plan evens the costs for everyone and appears, certainly by LtD's account, to be a step in the right direction for a country that has seen the divide between the have's and the have-not's widen over the last decade.

There are many things to like about the new health care system (unless you're rich, but since you're already rich I don't feel that bad for you). Young Americans need to keep in mind they won't be young forever.

Sarah Palin, Teabagging And The Difference Between Dumb and Dumber

As I read the article on Yahoo.com about Sarah Palin leading the rallycry for all those now afflicted by the terrors and anguish of expanded health care coverage, it brings a stark contrast to light...

It makes me think about how many Republicans, now sore and bitter after losing to the black man and a bunch of hippies, are embracing the idea that they are the oppressed minority.

And the notion they are somehow now the underdog seems to bring out their good ol' fashioned fighting spirit. Equipped with posters and slogans, the conservative party is taking to the streets. In fact, this "grassroots" movement (funny, wasn't that Obama's gimmick first) has given themselves a nickname:

The Teabaggers.

Seriously.
I'm not kidding.

The definition for "teabagger" from UrbanDictionary.com is "a man that squats on top of a womens face and lowers his genitals into her mouth during sex, known as "teabagging".

Wow, right?

So who could the Republicans get to be the face of their group, a group of people who apparently lower their genitals on the face of others?

Que Sarah Palin.

Who else would be willing to be the voice of stupidity like Sarah Palin? Who else is that confused and backwoods to lead a charge against Obama and the Democrats who have ruthlessly provided and additional 15% of our nation with health care coverage?

Who else but Sarah Palin?

And it makers me think about the difference between people who think it's morally and legally wrong for the government to enforce others to have health care coverage (13 states have sued the federal government over the passing of the health care bill, saying that the bill is unconstitutional), and those who believe that going to war is wrong. Especially when that war is with a country that wasn't directly related to an attack on our country (while ignoring the guy and the country that was actually responsible for the attack).

It's the difference between dumb and dumber.

Look, if you think it's stupid that Obama wants to spend $940 billion dollars over the next decade when we are already mortgaged to the curb, I get it.

If you believe that people shouldn't have to purchase some type of health care coverage, I can see your point of view.

But when there are people who are making comparisons between Obama and Hitler, that's when I'm afraid you've lost me.

Bill Maher recently reminded me of a press conference Dick Cheney once held, and while taking questions a reporter from the audience informed Cheney that the majority of Americans did not agree with Cheyney's view on a given issue. You wanna know what Cheney's response was?

"So".

That's compassion if I've ever seen it.

And as for the idea that health care reform is expensive it is. It really is.

It's about as expensive as a war.

So whether you call yourself a Republican or a Democrat, a Liberal or a Conservative, a Lefty or a Righty...just don't be so fucking stupid as to lose sight of the big picture.

We're all gonna have to work together and find a way to fix this country's problems. Otherwise we'll all wind up polishing the brass on the USS Titanic while other countries begin to attract the better doctor's, lawyer's, craftsmen, etc.

Hey LtD-Land! How bout some TV talk...

* A fantastic show begins it's 2nd season tonight. United States of Tara premieres at 10:30pm (est) on Showtime. For those who don't know the show is about a family where the mom (Toni Collette) has a major personalty disorder. She has 4 to 5 prominent ones that come in and out when certain situations come up. The rest of her family has some interesting story lines to follow as well. I highly recommend checking it out!

* Flash Forward resumed last Thursday night with an intense 2-hour premiere. I for one was quite surprised how much happen in that time. First off, what's Simon's deal?? Is he bad, good or indifferent? I totally thought he was going to nail the lady agent by the way. (Can't remember her name) How bout Mark talking to Simco in his flash forward?? Great premiere to get the season going. Only thing I am wondering is the show initially followed our same time of year. Why did they change that?

* Bill Maher has been great in recent weeks of his new shows. Anyone else think Bill Maher is very intelligent an awesome? My favorite thing about Maher is he is not afraid to come down hard on his side when they screw up. Conservative hosts like Rush Pill-popper and Glenn Beck never do that. Ever... This week's show for Real Time is a must-watch since the passing of the health care bill. Can't wait to see what Maher has to say!

* Did anyone see last week's Office? Was that not the worst episode of that show's history? It was horrible. I guess it's hard to follow up the baby but wow. Half an episode at a dump site??

* The next season of the Ultimate Fighter premieres next Wednesday March 31st at 10pm. This is one of the best shows out there for fight fans. It's another light-heavy weight division with coaches Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell.

* I just heard the new season of Deadliest Catch premieres on April 13th. It will be very interesting to see how Discovery honors the late Capt Phil Harris who just passed a month ago. Cameras where rolling when Phil became ill and all through his final days. Should be very captivating.

LtD Weirdo-File: New Jersey Walmart Tells All Black People To Leave The Store

So Walmart better get a check book out and prepare to write a lot of checks with several numbers in the amount box.

Last Sunday a male employee came over the loud speaker in a NJ Walmart and said, "Attention Walmart customers: All black people leave the store now."

Wow...

The incident is being investigated as we speak to find out what happen and why this dude would announce this over the loud speaker! He was not caught on a hidden camera, or in passing conversation, it was the loud speaker through the entire store.

Walmart management has since come out and apologized calling the behavior, "unacceptable."

I have a message for the south; if you don't want to be stereotyped as racist homophobes then don't act like it! The Confederacy lost the war; slavery is not coming back and gay people will no be staying in the closet.

My level of incredible frustration with people imposing their beliefs that affect other people's lives has grown quite thin. If people aren't breaking the law, costing you money, or directly messing up your life, leave them the fuck alone.

If a girl wants to bring her girlfriend to a prom and wear a tux instead of a dress whats the big freaking deal? The other straight kids will not get cooties and go gay from being around someone who is gay.

This school should lose their funding. To cancel a prom and ruin a senior year for all these kids and make the 18 year-old lesbian student the scapegoat is a fucking disgrace.

This story is amazing! My wife told me about this when I got home from work today and I almost fell out of my chair.

It turns out Sarah Palin hates "evil socialized medicine" so much that she and her family used go across the border to Canada for health care. Let that sink in folks...

Yeah... the woman who swears that socialized health care is the devil and has death panels that will kill everyone's elderly relatives used it for her and her family.

That is just mind boggling...Hypocritical for certain!

Palin didn't even seem to connect these differences when talking about it. Nothing about hating Canadian health care since she saw how bad it was or anything. Just the quote "we use to hustle across the border for health care in Canada."

It still astounds me how much political figures lie to gain the vote of their respective party's. It's nauseating!

More than ever this country needs a quality, equally-funded 3rd political party. I honestly wonder if the country will survive without this desperately needed move.

Huge Wave Crashes Into Cruise Ship

I love cruises. Really love them. What happen to this ship in the Mediterranean Sea a few days ago is real frightening! When you watch the video pay attention to the windows in the background when all of a sudden they shatter with a wall of water.

This room that takes the brunt of the wave is the 5th deck from what I heard. Anyone who has been on a cruise realizes how high that is! The wave was reportedly 26 feet.

Cell Phone News: Apple Suing HTC

In this story coming across the AP wire states that Apple, the maker of the iphone (if you didn't already know this fact, I would consider moving from under that rock you've been living under) is going to sue HTC, a company that made the first Google-powered, Android-based smartphone that competes directly with the iphone.

From the article:
"Several of the patents relate to technology behind touch screens, including one that lets a device's screen detect more than one finger touch at a time, allowing someone to zoom in or out by spreading their fingers apart or pinching them together, for instance. Another patent refers to using sensors on a device to gather information about a user's activity or surroundings and letting the device react by, for example, lighting up."

More from the article:
"In a court filing, Apple said that a bevy of HTC-made cell phones -- including the Nexus One and T-Mobile's G-1 and the myTouch 3G -- are using patent-protected technologies owned by Apple without having a license for them."

Apple is looking to sue for, you guessed it, money-of course- and to block the sale of the phones that have infringed on the Apple patents.

World News: Chile Quake May Have Shortened Days On Earth

In this report I found on Yahoo.com (which apparently just turned 15 years old, so Happy Birthday Yahoo), the 8.8-magnitude Chilean quake may have shortened an Earth day by a whopping 1.26 milliseconds.

Which makes the title of the report, "Chile Earthquake May Have Shortened Days on Earth", a little over-the-top. I basically took the same approach with the title of this article so I guess I can't point fingers.

LtD Fun Fact: 100K Condoms Not Enough For The Olympic Village

I heard this story a few times today on several radio stations and couldn't help but chuckle each time.

Last Wednesday there was a special airlift called in for the Olympic Village. Was it for an injury or medical issue?

Nope...It was an airlift of more free condoms.

When the games began there was 100,000 free condoms provided to the 7,000 participants and organizers staying in the Olympic Village. That's about 14 per person.

They ran out in 9 days...

It would appear when you get a large amount of people, mostly young, together from all around the world, competing is not only thing they want to do.

Several previous Olympic competiters have been asked about this story. They all equated the Olympic Village to a buffet of countries, and they are not referencing the food.
The best quote I heard today was from a hockey player who competed in the 1994 games in Lillehammer. When asked about this story he said, "well, all I can say is we put the hammer back in Lillehammer!"

Cellular News: Palm Slipping, Throws Verizon Under The Bus

This article from the Wall Street Journal reports that Palm recently announced their profits are down and has since seen their stock drop 19%, as well as their market share in the highly competitive world of smartphones.

In fact, Palm's Chief Executive Jon Rubenstein passed some of the blame on to Verizon.

"In an email to employees obtained by The Wall Street Journal, Palm Chief Executive Jon Rubinstein suggested part of the fault lay largely with Verizon Wireless, which began selling the new phones in January.

Mr. Rubinstein wrote that "[Verizon (VZ) Wireless] acknowledged that their execution of our launch was below expectations and recommitted to working with us to improve sales."

Living The Nightmare: Chile Rocked by Earthquake, Hawaii Awaits Tsunami

Not good news in the world today as Chile was rocked by 8.8 earthquake. From early reports the country faired better than Haiti but have already reported 33 aftershocks and counting.

LtD Weather Update: Monster Nor'Easter Pounds NY and NJ

Well the lower Mid-Atlantic states were sparred the huge snow totals but the wind is certainly living up to its billing.

Snow fell in Philadelphia, southern NJ and northern Delaware but it was to warm to stick to the ground. It has snowed for 18 hours now an Philadelphia International Airport has recorded 1 measly inch. There is still a chance this storm will continue to rotate through these areas and drop 4-8 inches through the night into tomorrow. The more dangerous element will be the incredible winds blowing through the area. They will last all through the night.

Lower NY, northeastern PA and northern NJ took a direct hit from this monster storm. They were the bulls-eye! Some of these areas already have a foot of snow and can expect another foot+ through the night into tomorrow.

The upper New England states are getting almost all rain with very intense winds nearing hurricane force. This will continue through tonight and tomorrow with this intense storm continuing to spin an slow down over land.

We can expect snow shower remnants from this storm through most of the weekend before it finally moves of the coast for good. If anyone gets a chance watch the track of this storm from earlier today. It's so strange! It literally zigged and zagged up and down the coast. So weird!

LtD Weather Update: Monster Nor-Easter Slow To Arrive, Don't Be Fooled

As I type this report the most intense winter storm of the season is beginning to explode in the Atlantic. The center of the storm is located off the coast of VA/NC and is the most complicated forecast of the season.

This storm will literally dance back and forth up the coast and finally engulf northeastern PA, north and central NJ and most of lower NY with fury. These areas can expect anywhere from 1-2 feet of snow and extreme winds.

Areas like eastern and southeastern PA, the bottom half of NJ and northern Delaware can expect high winds and snow totals around 1 foot. These areas will experience a more wind driven snow due to the whip around affect of this rotating monster storm.

Other outlying areas can expect up to 6 inches of snow and high winds.
Don't be fooled with this slow arriving storm! The teeth of the storm will arrive today and last through Thursday night into Friday late morning. The winds of this storm will probably be more of the story than snow totals. It will be a very wet and heavy snow that will add to the burden of saturated ground causing trees to come down quite easily.

Keep your eyes and ears on the forecast and be safe. I would venture to say walking around under trees will be more dangerous than driving in this storm.

LtD Weather Update: Snowicane Is A Reality, Monster Storm On The Way

The most intense storm of the winter season is on the way to the Mid-Atlantic I95 corridor.

Though this storm will not bring the highest snowfall totals of the season, the winds will be very powerful with some areas getting hurricane force winds. (74mph+) This is a grave concern for many areas because they had so much snow and rain in the past 4 weeks, the ground is extremely saturated. Trees will be ripped out of the ground with ease.

Let's talk track! The storm is down to two distinct tracks. The European models have the teeth of the storm pounding New York City, northeastern PA and northern NJ. The other models (they never named them in the report) have the teeth of the storm pounding central and portions of southern NJ, Philadelphia, southeastern and extreme eastern PA, northeastern MD and parts of northern DE.

This monster storm will start as early as late Wednesday night and snow through Friday morning. That's not a mistype... It will snow for 24-30 hours straight!

Whatever track it takes areas in the cross hairs can expect snow totals of 12-18 inches with some parts getting up to 2 feet. High winds reaching hurricane force in some areas will cause a lot of drifting as well.

Areas that get clipped by the storm can expect snow totals of 6-12 inches with high winds and drifting.

Several weather experts have said this storm reminds them of the Perfect Storm made famous I believe in 1999. (Andrea Gail sinking story)

Be ready folks... It's not a matter of if, it's how much. Then add the high winds and trees going down everywhere.

LtD Weather Report: Monster Snow-Hurricane Coming?

Several weather outlets are reporting that a monster snow storm is brewing. The storm is currently located in the south but it's expected to pull strength from the Gulf and move up the normal Nor-Easter track and become a beast!

This storm is projected to be a snow-hurricane.

What's that mean you ask?

It's a snow storm that will have winds of 75mph or higher. That's Category 1 hurricane force winds... Insane!

The storm is expected to arrive in the Mid-Atlantic states on Thursday and go well into Friday. Currently the storm's track has the teeth of the storm hitting northeastern PA and portions of NY and NJ. Areas like New England, Philadelphia, southern NJ, and parts of Maryland and Delaware could get just the back or front side of the storm but could easily get a foot or more of snow from that.

Keep your eye out for more news on this possible winter monster! Nor-Easter tracks can change up until the last minute and it could mean the difference between measuring snow in feet or inches.

Olympics Chatter: USA Shocks The World, Curling The Next Big Thing?

If anyone out in LtD-Nation watched the USA/Canada hockey game last night that was not a hockey fan before, you are now! It was the most incredible Olympic hockey game since the Miracle on Ice in 1980. (By the way the 30-year anniversary was today)

Last night the heavily favored Canada crumbled under the pressure of playing in the homeland losing 5-3 to USA. People today got a little ahead of themselves saying the victory was as big as the Miracle on Ice. It was certainly up there in incredible moments but Miracle was still the biggest. We gave the Soviet Union the middle finger right in the middle of the Cold War.

Just think, a few years later Rocky Balboa ended the Cold War when he defeated Ivan Drago in Rocky IV...

Anyone else out there find themselves addicted to watching Curling?? I don't understand the game but I'm mesmerized by it. I wanted to run out and by those sweet ice shoes and frantically broom ice! I want to be the guy who pushes the curl rocks!

LtD On Politics: New Health Care Plan Proposal Revealed

I came across this article on CNN. It does a great job of explaining what the new health care plan looks like and what would actually change. The article breaks it down into layman's terms.

The first thing I noticed was the price. Wow...
We are talking numbers in the hundreds of billions.

Who knows if this will be the bill that makes it through but there is a televised debate this week that should get heated between both parties. After a small lull, the Obama Administration is getting more aggressive pushing congress to come to some type of comprise on health care. It has not been a good couple of weeks for congress with growing frustration over ridiculous lack of bi-partisanship. It's total gridlock.

Along with the health care bill, Obama is trying to get the jobs bill through. With unemployment still sitting around 10% the American people are becoming more impatient. I have not seen much detail on this particular bill but with all the bailout money for corporate America, the freaking least they could do is hire.

Anyone else think it's insane that these companies get all this money and continue to not hire people?
What about these financial companies that got all this taxpayer money and continue to offer such crappy rates on investments? It's a disgrace!

Family Guy vs Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin has Family Guy in her cross-hairs. Safe to say she was not pleased with last Sunday's episode poking fun at down syndrome.

Palin and her daughter Bristol went nuts on their Facebook page heavily criticizing the show because the character who had downs eluded to being "the daughter of the former governor of Alaska."

The most interesting part of the story is the girl who did the voiceover for the character, Andrea Friedman, has downs herself. She lashed back at Sarah Palin and family for being unable to take a joke. Friedman insisted that being light-hearted and not being afraid to laugh at herself is the a key to happiness.

The individual in the photo to the left is one of the happiest guys I know. He also happens to live in Hawaii.

According to a new study, Hawaii has the happiest people in the US. (well, around it anyways).

I'm generalizing, of course, much like the story itself, but I think you'll enjoy the read.

As for the individual in the photo, we must never forget he grew up in the glorious Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

...hopefully one day the man above will leave the leis of the West behind and return to the center of the universe, here in PA.

Oprah Is A Fraud

Oprah has certainly done nice things for people but I always felt she was a fake and hates men. Oh and she has a stupid uneducated opinion on infertility.

Well...the first point above can be argued, but she certainly doesn't do any show preparation for guests. If she doesn't handle that, then her crew is really bad at their job. Recently she had on Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees. After they sat down, Oprah proceeded to stand up and try and wipe off his face what she thought was a lipstick mark.

It's not a lipstick mark....it's a birthmark on his face he is sensitive about.
That's a real unprofessional move for an interviewer. Really bad...

2010 Winter Olympics Open Today

The 2010 Winter Olympics begin today in Vancouver. Today's events include the torch lighting ceremony. This is the first time the event will happen indoors.

Here is a great excerpt from ESPN.com regarding what to watch for today:

Feb 12-
Opening ceremony: There's usually only one big secret leading up to the ritual kickoff, and that's which national sports icon will serve as the final torchbearer. Sad News For Deadliest Catch Fans: Cornelia Marie Capt Phil Harris Has Passed Away

It's with great sadness that I let all of you who are Deadliest Catch fans know Capt Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie has passed away.

Capt Phil had a serious stroke on January 29th while off-loading Opilio crabs at St Paul Island and died from the complications. The Opilio crabs are the winter season crabs the crews go out to catch and is the second part of the Discovery Channel Deadliest Catch season.

I am very curious to see what Discovery Channel does for Capt Phil when the new season begins on TV in a few months.

Thoughts go out to his crew and especially his two sons Josh and Jake who fished along side their dad.

TV News: MTV Shows Off New Logo Sans "Music Television"

Nearly 30 years ago Music Television was born. A new kind of cable channel that played all music, all of the time.

And this great revelation was called...MTV.

Obviously, the network has morphed over the years into something more closely resembling the inexcusably low standards of the young-adult American viewer.

Aka "Jersey Shore". (to be fair, I've never seen the show and I plan to keep it that way).

Well the famous MTV logo is finally changing to reflect the shift away from music. The netowrk is removing the "Music Television" below the "M". Click the link below to see a side-by-side comparison of the two logos.

LtD Weather Report: Snowmaggedon Round 2 On The Way To The Mid-Atlantic States

Another monster snow storm is on the way to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern part of the US.

This storm is actually stronger and more intense then last weekend's blizzard. The only difference is this storm is depending on moisture from the Atlantic Ocean where last weekend's storm already had it.

That's why we can expect a little less in snow totals but stronger winds and a more widespread blanket of fresh powder. It will start tonight and go through much of the day tomorrow into the late evening.

We are starting to see totals matching up from prospective weather folks. Almost all are in agreement that a foot of snow is the minimum for northern Delaware, the northeast part of Maryland, eastern PA, a large part of New Jersey, New York City, and further north.

Many of these areas listed above are in the possible crosshairs of this storm that could bring 2 feet plus. It's just a matter of how it tracks that will deterime who gets blasted.

From what I see, it looks like LtD home base in the Philly area will get a foot and half to 2 feet. Parts further north and east will get more, and further south like DC and Baltimore will get a foot or so.

Stock up on milk, eggs, and bread for all that French Toast and watch as we make snow history!
